Part 1: Begin this unit by reading the technology concepts article entitled "Manufacturing: Factory Layout and Planning". Make careful note of words in bold type, you will need to know what these words mean. When you have finished, discuss it with your partner, making sure you both understand it. (elapsed time 10 minutes) Part 2: Then, go to Manufacturing Tours (it will open in a new window so you will be able to refer to this instruction page) and follow the instructions below: On this site there is a long list of manufacturers and you are to choose two places to take a tour (1 for each partner). Some of the tours have sound and video in them. There are car makers, candy manufacturers, furniture makers, and even a crayola tour. After you have made your selection, start touring. (elapsed time 40 minutes) HOMEWORK: (You can print a fill-in sheet from the homework link) Create a vocabulary list with at least 10 words and definitions (you may use the words in bold from Part 1). (elapsed time 15 minutes) YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE 1 CLASS PERIOD LEFT TO COMPLETE THIS UNIT!
