Classroom Rules

Teacher Name: Ms. Blaine
Classroom: 222
Subject(s): Computer Technology

Ms. Blaine's Class Expectations:

  1. Be in seat and ready when the bell rings.
  2. Raise your hand to speak or ask questions.
  3. Bring materials to class everyday. This includes a pen or pencil and a notebook. I WILL NOT SUPPLY ANY WRITING UTENSIL. If you cannot do the work because you do not have the required materials, you will be expected to complete the work on your own time.  It will be considered late.
  4. ***Use only dark blue or black ink pens or pencils when writing assignments. Assignments written in other colors will not be accepted. If an assignment is rewritten and turned in late the grade will be 15 points lower.
  5. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.  Students are not to touch the keyboards of their neighbor unless said neighbor needs assistance and the teacher or student has asked you to.  Doing so will be considered as tampering with their work and will result in automatic disciplinary action.
  6. If a student forgets to write his or her name on an assignment and identifies it later, the assignment grade will be 10 points lower.
  7. When submitting assignments via Blackboard, an assignment name will be provided/requested and should always include your name.  Failure to use the correct assignment name will result in no score and the need to resubmit the work.  If you no longer have the file/work you will be required to redo it for a grade. For example, if the assignment is called "Resizing" you should submit it as "Resizing- John" (replace John with your own name).
  8. Respect all people in the classroom.
  9. Students will be permitted to use the restroom when lecturing or presentation of material is not going on.  Ms. Blaine's classes include lots of project time during which students may use the restroom or get a drink if NEEDED.  If you do not NEED to do so- don't.  Repeatedly reserving my classtime for these activities will be noticed and addressed.
  10. No eating or drinking in class. This includes gum! Drinks brought into the computer lab will be confiscated and poured out- the bottle will be returned if reusable. Students who demonstrate an inability to follow this rule will receive disciplinary action at the teacher's discretion. NO EXCEPTIONS! NO WARNINGS!
NOTE: As the person in the room who does the most talking and cannot go to the water fountain during class I reserve the right to have a drink bottle myself.  Just like in life- sometimes there are different rules for different groups of people and different circumstances.
  11. Remain in your seat until the bell rings. Students who gather by the door must remain in the room until all other students have left.
  12. The Internet is to be used for educational research. You are not to log-on to the network until Ms. Blaine tells you to.
  13. These rules are in addition to any school rules already in place.

Attendance -- Ms. Blaine's classes are hands-on and project oriented.  Missing class means you have less time to complete projects and tasks which you may not be able to work on at home.  It is the student's responsibility to complete any work missed during an absence. Check the website for work missed- you are required to be responsible.

Student's who miss one or more days of school must, upon return to school:

1.

contact class website first, then Ms. Blaine to determine work missed.

2.

complete all tests missed within a reasonable time (see instructor for clarification)

3.

submit work for credit within X days of returning to school (X being equal to the number of consecutive missed days). Any work not made up in the allotted time is worth a maximum of 50% only.

Promptness to class --  If you are late for class you will be given one warning. I expect that you will be in your seat when the bell sounds. Three tardy arrivals to class will be equivalent to one detention. If a teacher holds you longer, YOU must request a pass from that teacher. You cannot go back later and request a pass.

Care of Equipment --  Expensive equipment such as we have in the computer labs and technology suite requires careful treatment. Any maltreatment of equipment will result in consequences. Tools and other materials must be put away correctly after each use. No food or drink in the computer lab/ technology suite - no exceptions.

Class Work and Homework -- Professional quality work is expected. All class work is to be handed in on the assigned date. Students may have a day for every day they are absent outside class (with permission from instructor...me!) to hand in an assignment without penalty. If you are absent or need additional time in addition to regular class time, the lab is open during various times through out the day.

The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School is committed to a high standard of academic integrity in the academic community. In becoming a part of the academic community, students are responsible for honesty and independent effort. Failure to uphold these standards includes, but is not limited to, the following: plagiarizing written work or projects, cheating on exams or assignments, and collusion on an exam or project. Cheating includes looking at or copying from another student's exam, orally communicating or receiving answers during an exam, having another person take an exam or complete a project or assignment, using unauthorized notes, texts, or other materials for an exam, and obtaining or distributing an unauthorized copy of an exam or any part of an exam. Plagiarism means passing off as his/her own the ideas or writings of another (that is, without giving proper credit by documenting sources). Plagiarism includes submitting a paper, report or project that someone else has prepared, in whole or in part. Collusion is inappropriately collaborating on assignments designed to be completed independently. These definitions are not exhaustive. When there is clear evidence of cheating, plagiarism, collusion or misrepresentation, the instructor will take disciplinary action including but not limited to: requiring the student to retake or resubmit an exam or assignment, assigning a grade of zero or "F" for an exam or assignment; or assigning a grade of "F" for the course.

Behavior in class --  Only mature and responsible behavior will be accepted in the technology suite and computer lab. Use of any foul language will result in loss of work/computer use for a given time! Respect your classmates and their property. Students are expected to be on time for class. Being late disrupts the lecture and your fellow students. The instructor has the right to take reasonable measures to ensure a class period free of disruptions. Students are expected to respect the safety of their peers and selves. NEVER throw anything, shove anyone, or smash-bash-or slam things in the lab or Technology Suite. These actions will result in an automatic removal from the classroom and a referral requesting administrative action.

Software Piracy -- Law strictly prohibits unauthorized copying of software purchased by ELCS for use in laboratories. ELCS administration will take appropriate disciplinary action against anyone violating copyright laws. NO Downloading!
